Unbeloved

Do not read this if you are looking for a happy story. It's as sad as they come. See it's about love, and we all know the pain love can bring...

There was a merchent's daughter. She was beautiful, with gold hair and crystal green eyes. her father was wealthy, but not rich enough to buy her a noble to marry, but then she didn't want a noble. See no matter how many men she had court her, there was only one for her. She would watch him from her bedroom window at times. He was simple, the stable boy for the inn next door. He had hair of a dusty gold, and brown eyes. She could not remember when or how she fell in love with him, but she did. She had looked out the window and knew he was her whole world.

Now this girl was not simple for neather was this boy. She had a tutor that taught her many things, and she also had general knowledge about alot of different things because of her father. He was very good at talking at the dinner table.

Now this boy was simple. He was not stupid, but his knowledge was of the world and how things worked. A different knowledge this girl did not have. He also had fear. The fear that any young boy has when talking to a girl. But this fear did not leave with puberity. It made him more cold, and not wanting of love. Thinking himself destined not to have love or forbidden. Making his soul, his work. Tieing them together one in the same.

The girl did not understand why her longings fell on such a dry mind. She loved him and well why shouldn't he love her. She wasn't concited, but realistic Many men above and below her loved her, not for her beauty, because where yet she was beautiful she was by far not the most beautiful, these men loved her for her mind and personality. They also had an attraction to her for what was just her. Maybe her smile or laugh, or good humor. Why didn't this stable boy see that in her?

She went down one day to talk with this stable boy, and he knew who she was. He knew she watched him from her window. So they talked and she was in love with him more then before with the knowledge of his mind and soul. She maybe was not as worldly as he, but she was intellegent. Atleast as much as he was. She was not beneath him in her looks, that he could push her away with the excuss of ugliness. If it was her soul he hated then why not say so.

This boy knew the girl, and loved her in his way. But he could not tell her. He loved her but not the love she wanted. She loved him so completely, and wanted true love returned. He did not hate her, and did not want her to go. He so wanted to hold her near him. Such a pretty song bird she would make.

She knew he just played games with her. Still she watched and hoped he would grow out of it. He saw the men falling at her feet. Men far above him, but this ment nothing to him. Or did it? Did he believe he was not good enough for her?

Well she decided that her heart hurt to much to let things continue as they where. She confessed her love to him. He did not have words to eather side. He could not say he loved her, so she could not be happy with him forever. And he did not, not love her. He wanted to keep her as the friend she was, but still she was torn up inside.

Now he had nothing to save him. He did love her, and maybe enough to commit to her, but then came the problem of his youth. He still saw so much life before him. She ment the end to those dreams. There was no room for her dreams or god forbid 'thier' dreams together. He hugged her as a friend. To cruel to set her heart free, and to scared to let her in.

This merchent's daughter would have begged at the stable boy's feet if it might change things. But he had goals of his own. We also know women mature faster then the men. She couldn't make sense of her emotions. Why nobels would give everything for her, and yet there was something in her, that turned away the one man she wanted.

He didn't want to hurt her, but the irony was he hurt her every day with his existence and refusial to take a side to her. She begged him to curse her or love her. If he hated her then she could go along with her life, the bond would be broken. But he liked her around perhapes. That's why she died. They found tears in her eyes and a knife in her chest, this was after the wrists where slit. She didn't want life without him.

He found a ring left behind. For him, from her. It had ingraved a simple word of 'good-bye'. He knew then that he had caused her death, and he killed himself soon after because he realized that he truelly loved her all along and just was to scared to say so.

But not even in death where they together but I could tell you that story later. Good night, and remember where you lay your head down tonight, and remember where you have layed down your heart. Will they meet?
